Although some are in the suburbs and out of the city, quiet and sacred shrines and temples are highliy recommended to feel the history and the nature.
Tsurugajo-inari Shrine
It has been located with in the Tsuruga-jo castle grounds for over 600 years as a guardian god of the castle.
Aizu Otsukayama Tumulus (Ancient Grave)
This keyhole-shaped tumulas is said to have been made in the late 4th century. It is now placed by a large cemetery park.
Isasumi Shrine
It enshrines Isasumi gods and goddesses. With in the ground, there is an iris garden which is the largest in Tohoku area.
Enzoji Temple
The birthplace of the Akabeko legend. It has a history of over 1200 years, and is loved by many visitors and locals.
Hanitsu Shrine
It is located in Inawashiro town, enshrining Masayuki Hoshina, the founder of the Matsudaira family of Aizu. Its white Torii (a Shinto gate) is beautiful.
